Crocheting is a great hobby that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. It’s also a fantastic way to make money, as the crochet industry is worth billions of dollars! Of course, there are many different ways to crochet. You could try your hand at sewing clothes or making accessories.
For example, if you’re looking for something more fun and creative though, then this blog post is perfect for you! We will go into detail about how to make plushie crochet of your favorite animal using some simple supplies.
What You’ll Need to Make a Plushie Crochet:
Go to your local craft/hobby store and purchase:
- Size G crochet hook (4mm)
- Small amount of yarn (in whatever color you like)
- Yarn needle, or large sewing needle for loose ends.
If you intend on making more advanced plushie crochet with embroidered details, then also buy some felt fabric in different colors. It shouldn’t be more than $1 per sheet so it won’t put too much of a dent in your pocket!
You can choose to just use one color of felt or multiple colors depending on the animal that you’re trying to create. If the animal is primarily orange, use orange felt for its face. If it’s brown, you can use tan or dark brown felt.
You’ll also need to purchase a sewing needle for the end of your yarn when you’re ready to sew your plushie together. This will be used in place of the crochet hook that you probably are accustomed to using when crocheting with yarn.
There are two different types of needles that are typically used, one is very thin and sharp, the other thicker and duller (so as not to pierce through things). I recommend using the thinner version because it’s easier to work with and won’t split open your stitches like a larger needle would if you accidentally poke yourself. Now that all of your supplies have been gathered, we can now begin to crochet!
Start by attaching the yarn to one side of your plushie with a slip stitch. Let’s say you’re making a frog for this example, so we’ll attach the yarn on the backside above where his legs will be. If you’re making a dog named Fido, you would start crocheting the mouth area using the same technique.
You can place it wherever you want, but I recommend starting somewhere that isn’t too obvious because it’s difficult to hide your beginning stitch when working in the round (more on that later).
Step by Step Guidelines to Make a Plushie Crochet:
First Step – Pick Your Favorite Animal:
The first step is choosing which animal you would like to turn into plushie crochet! If you feel lost, don’t worry! There are hundreds of different animals out there for you to choose from. You can pick something classic like an elephant or giraffe, or go for something more unique like a narwhal or zebrafish.
It’s completely up to you! Please note that many people tend to include their favorite mythical creatures in this category too (like dragons and unicorns), so if that’s what you’re looking for then don’t worry! It’s completely fine to make plushie crochet of something like this.
Second Step – Getting the Basic Supplies Ready:
After you’ve decided which animal or creature you would like to start crocheting, it’s time to get all of your supplies and materials ready so that we can get started! Please note that these items are not necessarily needed when making plushie crochet, but they definitely make things easier in several different ways.
If you would prefer not to use them for one reason or another, feel free to do so – nothing here is mandatory! Unless otherwise stated, please remember that all links provided in our list below go directly to either an Amazon product page or to a link with more information about what we’re talking about!
Third Step – Deciding on the Color of Yarn :
As this isn’t a crochet tutorial, there are no standard sizes or patterns to follow. There are hundreds of different animals out there, and each one requires its own unique pattern, size, and shape. As such, there’s no “one size fits all” option for any plushie crochet.
Every animal will require its own special type of yarn that can be used specifically for that project alone. This part may take some time to figure out if you’ve never made plushie crochet before, but it’ll definitely be worth it in the end! If you’re having trouble choosing which color to use, then remember that different colors can affect the overall tone of your crochet!
For example, lighter colors like white and yellow tend to go well with something more bright and vibrant, while darker colors like brown and black tend to work best if you want plushie crochet to seem friendlier or cuter. There are no “rules” for this part – it’s completely up to you! Now get out there and get crocheting so we can make some awesome plushie crochet animals!!
To make the left side ear, we will be using the same exact steps that we used for the right side ear except we will be using one color of yarn for this ear instead of two colors like we did for the right side ear since you can not see what is happening on the backside as you crochet.
